Wealth management advisers have been competing against robo-advisers for years. Recently, however, Charles Schwab has announced it is offering a service that combines automated investment management with human advisers. In a recent story in Reuters, the Schwab Intelligent Advisory service will provide clients with a customized financial plan along with advice from live certified financial planners and an automated portfolio.

While this and other automated and hybrid investment advisory services do help the small investor, it can mean more competition for traditional financial services firms that provide human advisers dedicated to individual client investment goals.

Investment News reported on a survey by the Financial Planning Association and Investopedia that, even though investors using digital advisers were nearly as happy as those who used traditional investors, nearly 40% of the respondents said they would prefer investment planning services from both traditional and online advisers. It also found that most people still prefer the human touch for estate planning, elder-care planning, tax planning, and health-care planning services.

So, to get you started, let’s take a look at some of the major SEO elements you need to consider when building your web store.

Page Title

The page title is just that: the title text that you see at the very top of your browser window.

It’s also the text you’ll see when the page appears in a search engine results page (SERP for short); which means it’s a critical component of your SEO.

Google displays the first 70 characters of a page title. So, when naming your page, give a thought to what you want your customers to see in search results. You should also take care not to duplicate page titles or incorporate irrelevant terms that could negatively affect your results.

Meta Keywords

In general, keywords are words your clients use during their online search. These words might be products (hiking boots), special offers (shoes for a dollar), or even a description of your site (online shoe store).

Meta keywords, then, are elements of a page that tell search engines about the content of the page. So you might use hiking boots on a product page, shoes for a dollar on a promotion page, and online shoe store for your home page.

These keywords are distinct from page content like product descriptions. While page content may also contain keywords, visitors to your site do not see the meta keywords.

Meta Description

Like meta keywords, the meta description tells web crawlers about the content of the page. As the name implies, it’s a concise description of the page’s contents.

The meta description is more important to advanced SEO than meta keywords. Google in particular no longer crawls meta keywords but does crawl the meta description.

Also, unlike meta keywords, visitors can see meta descriptions from the SERP. As such, meta descriptions should be given the same consideration as other visible content when writing them.

While there is no restriction as to the length, most search engines only look at the first 160 characters.


A breadcrumb is a navigation tool. You’ll usually see it at or near the top of the page, where visitors can click through to any of the preceding pages without having to hit the back button:

Home > Kitchen > Cutlery > Knives

Aside from being convenient for your clients, the breadcrumb plays an important role in providing information about the page to search engines. Breadcrumbs are usually generated from page titles, but some eCommerce solutions provide breadcrumb tools that let you customize and fine-tune the text even further.

Canonical Pages

Google hates duplicate content. Years ago, website owners could manipulate search engine results by heavily reproducing keyword-rich pages, so search engines began penalizing sites that did this.

But often there is a legitimate reason for having duplicate content. For instance, you might have a disclaimer that you want to appear on several of your site’s pages.

When you have similar content in more than one place, you can set one of the page URLs as canonical. Doing so tells the search engine that this page takes precedence over the others, letting you sidestep the problem of duplicate content.


Sometimes you might not want certain pages getting picked up by search engines.

There’s a text file called robots.txt in the top-level directory of your web server. You can use this file to tell web crawlers to disregard specific pages when crawling your site. You can also restrict specific crawlers (for example, if you want a page indexed by Google but not Yahoo).

However, be aware that robots.txt is only protocol. It can’t actually force web crawlers to comply. While this is not typically an issue with search engines, it provides no protection against malicious bots.

Remember, most if not all of these components can be configured easily through the content management system of a good eCommerce solution. With just a little work, your web store’s Google ranking will be climbing in no time!

  • Warehouse Management: Dynamics 365 offers multiple levels of inventory tracking (Site, Warehouse, Aisle, Location, and Pallet), as opposed to just Site and Bin, as is the case with Dynamics GP.
  • Task guides: Task guides are an extremely popular feature in Dynamics 365. The feature allows a user to record their motions or steps with the system so that future employees or users can easily be trained on the process. It increases efficiency and avoids newbie mistakes.

An on-premise deployment means that your organization owns the hardware and manages the infrastructure and servers dedicated to your system, which are usually located on site. A cloud-based deployment, which is steadily increasing in demand, involves the solution being stored and hosted by a third-party provider. Different types of cloud-based hosting solutions are available, ensuring that you can find one that suits the needs, processes and long-term vision of your organization.

Depending on your company’s IT strategy, the best deployment method for your organization may be determined by some of the core principles such as pricing, security, access to data, infrastructure needs and maintenance requirements.

It’s important to understand these differences to make an informed decision as to which is best suited for your company’s IT strategy based on your current operations and budget, while also providing the flexibility that your organization requires in the long term. On-premise Deployment Cloud-based Deployment

This monthly rate usually includes all potential fees, including hardware, maintenance and infrastructure costs.

The provider is responsible for security and ensuring that data is stored securely. In recent years, providers have made great efforts to offer cloud platforms that are secure and reliable.
Access & Customization An on-premise deployment has the advantage of giving you full control over data access, customization and scaling, but access will most likely be restricted to the local network of your business. The cloud offers a lot of flexibility in terms of access and scaling, but unless you opt for private cloud hosting, you may be limited to your provider’s offerings. However, your data and applications will be available from anywhere via the cloud.
Maintenance The maintenance, support and upgrade of the system are under your responsibility. Upgrades have to be scheduled to keep your solution up to date. Typically, annual maintenance fees give you access to new versions, and there are professional service costs for the actual migration. Updates and hot fixes are scheduled automatically by the provider so that that your solution is always up to date. Maintenance costs are usually included in your base monthly fee.
Hardware Your organization is responsible for the hardware and infrastructure running your solution. Hardware updates will be necessary occasionally to keep up with new technology and to replace obsolete material. There are no direct hardware purchases required as the applications are accessed via the web. It is important, however, to have a strong Internet connection as this may affect the performance of your applications.


Considering the impact that the above elements can have on the way you conduct your business, the deployment of your solution is an important aspect to consider when moving forward with a new management system. Depending on your needs and values, one deployment method may be better suited to your organization over the other. An overview of your payment options

There are numerous ways you can pay your vendors including check, ACH, wire, credit card, debit card and one-time use virtual card. There are advantages and downfalls to each that you need to understand in order to make the best choice for your company.

  1. Check – everyone accepts this form of payment but it requires a ton of manual work from you.
  2. ACH – instant transmission of funds to your vendor but you need to provide your vendor with account and routing information.
  3. Wire – fastest way to send a payment but is expensive.
  4. Credit card – easy for tracking expenses but vendors accept some cards and not others.
  5. Debit card – direct withdrawal from your bank account but often difficult to use due to PIN entry.
  6. One-time use virtual card – you earn cash rebates but not everyone will accept this form of payment.

What payment type is right for you

Deciding on a payment type is truly a joint decision by you and the vendors you make payments to. When it comes to deciding, here are some considerations.

  1. Speed of payment – depending on the urgency and risk for late payment fees, you may want to consider payment types that are instant such as ACH or credit card.
  2. Security of the payment – some payment types are simply more secure than others. One-time use virtual cards ensure you control the exact charge on the card and the card is not usable afterwards.
  3. Kickbacks to your company – one-time use virtual cards and credit cards will often provide cash rebates to your companies for every vendor payment you make.
  4. Vendor preference – working with vendors, I know that some prefer one payment type over another and this should factor into your decision for ho you pay.
